Sounds Of War

We are currently looking for a sound engineer to work with us at our live shows. The successful candidate will get to travel with 5 juvenile delinquents masquerading as an Epic Metal Band across Europe to various gigs and make us sound palatable to peoples fragile ears, and not be afraid to use volume as a weapon of warfare. Contact us at the usual email address to be found around the web, or send a message via the facebook page.

Leeds March 17th Flyer

Above is the flyer for our show in Leeds on March 17th with ASOMVEL, and Leeds' TREE OF SORES. We'll be adding some more shows in Europe to the list below ASAP. To those who are interested, we should have a couple more German shows, and a return to Greece, plus currently looking at dates in Norway, Holland, Poland, Sweden and Switzerland. Thankyou to all who have contacted us so far looking to book the band.

Last week we began to fine tune the current set, and look again at new equipment upgrades and replacements so we can deliver the heaviest possible show. In years gone by, we would have been satisfied with £4.99 guitar cables, cheap Japanese effects pedals  and knackered transistor amplifiers - but thankfully those days are many years behind us (Though it would seem that some people still love them!??).

There's little else to say at the moment, except, epic metal is war! Oh yeah, and buy some more shirts from Nightgaunt or Metal Supremacy. Go on, you know you want to.....honest. No, really, you do...(cue evil laughter)

Don't Badger Me!

And is if by magic, after being badgered to play more shows even though we are busy rehearsing and writing, here's a few more live dates for thy diaries of doom. We'll probably be adding more as the months progress, time permitting of course. After all, we have lives outside of music to lead.

March 17th - Leeds, Royal park Cellars
(+ ASOMVEL & TREE OF SORES)

April 8th - Lancaster, The Yorkshire House
(+ ASOMVEL, SLANDER, ELIMINATOR & More)

May 19th - Lucerne, Treibhaus, SWITZERLAND
(+ PROCESSION + PETRIFIED)

July 21st - Possneck, GERMANY
(Hell's Pleasure Festival + MORBUS CHRON, VANDERBUYST, MIDNIGHT & More)

September 29th - Dublin,IRELAND
(Dublin Doom Day Festival + REVELATION, PROCESSION & More)

October 13th - Leeds, The Cockpit
(Full Moon Dog Festival + ORANGE GOBLIN, ASOMVEL, DARK FOREST & More)

And if that's not enough, above and below are sneak previews of the incredible artwork for the "ENGLANDER" album created by Martin Hanford. Yes, they are only small snippets, that's foxed you, eh? Ho ho etc. They do not do justice to the whole concept, but right now we feel it best NOT to give the game away totally at this stage. So, for those interested, you can discuss the significance of these two images and what they may mean.

Meet Thy Doom

Well, that's 2011 wrapped up, we'd like to give a thanks to everyone who helped us out in anyway with gigs, gear and buying us drinks, a big fuck off to all the wyrm tongued scum who did none of the above and spent their time like hairy aersed fishwives gossiping on facebook (We simply despair, at the state of Bwwwwwwwwwitain today! Oh lordy!). 2012 will herald our second year of active gigging again, and we're looking forward to meeting alot of folks around Europe and the UK. Here's a few snaps of the rehearsal we had as a full line up whilst Admiral P. Kearns was in the vicinity. Our collective ears are still bleeding, and we laughed heartily at the complaints from two bands in rooms either side of us that we were "Drowning them out". The soft bastards. We also have a large amount of video footage from said rehearsal. but, because of our "Overkill" attitude when it comes to volume, the sound is completely bombed out and distorted. It's fucking great!! Sounds like the epic metal nuclear carpet bombing of Iraq! We will upload some onto youtube when we find a decent video editing programme.

Stuff. No idea what it does. It has pretty lights though.
Andy forages for his dropped roll up.
Paul again gives in to hunger, and eats the Mic.
Paul sniffs the Mic, unsure if the old singer stuck it up his aerse.
Lenny, pretending to look tired after 14 hours driving. The idle bastard.
Del has a sudden brainwave, and waves his sticks about.
Del waves his sticks faster, trying to fly.
He's still not taken off yet.
"Good evening ladies"
Lenny puts the evil eye on the fan.

Say Hello, Wave Goodbye.

And so, after much talking we have decided to split amicably with our drummer Rich Horton, purely for geographical reasons and the fact the distance between us was becoming a hindrance as we are stepping our efforts up a gear or three. We've had some great laughs with Rich, but the needs of the many must outweigh the needs of the few in this instance. (On a side note, I especially want to thank Alan Averill and all the lads of PRIMORDIAL, H of DME, and the incredible people for their appreciation and support at the Dublin show at the Academy. The 1000 Strong audience, and the laughs we had in the pubs and clubs after with Wing Commander Patrick Clancy will go down in legend. It was also Paul's debut on vocals, and to quote our mate Brucey, "Didn't he do well"?)

Anyways up, stepping into his (Richard's) shoes, we welcome ex-ASOMVEL lunatic "Dirty" Del Nichol, a legend among the pubs and clubs of Yorkshire for his ability to knock the living shit out of a drum kit and not go insane from the eldritch rants of Mr. Lenny Robinson. Del fits us like a size ten steel toe capped boot (Or $500 Cowboy ones if you like) and provides us with the ability and technical expertise we need. We'll be making our live début at the end of the year with him. We really do feel that we've had an uncanny stroke of luck to find a replacement in our local area. As the astute among you may already know, young Del played on ASOMVEL's "Full Moon Dog" EP, and thus the connection between SOLSTICE and ASOMVEL is further strengthened.

Above : "Dirty" Del Nichol (Alright, he's not really called "Dirty" Del, but it sounded good)

In other news, we'll be announcing the first of next Years European dates shortly, finally a gig in Germany, which we know that many, many people were disappointed that we had to cancel HELL's PLEASURE and Hammer Of Doom, but again, that's life. We lost no sleep over the cancellations, better to show up and be at our best rather than some hackneyed pub rock with geriatric singer wearing a threadbare hairpiece and wailing out of key which seems to be the norm. We're better than than that, we won't stoop to the level of all these charlatans and chancers. We live, breathe and believe in the music we play, you will never catch us trying to record an album in a chicken hut in someone's back garden then trying to fob it off as re-recorded "Old songs".

And so, as the new songs for the next album are still work in progress (we're still jamming and writing), we will release a limited edition Rehearsal Demo, much in the vein of the old "Drunken Dungeon Sessions" tapes which will be available for a limited time only, With three new songs, ("FORTRESS ENGLAND", "I AM THE HUNTER" and "DEATH'S CROWN IS VICTORY") - it will be a small run available around March/April time to coincide with going to the public house and getting intoxicated most likely!! Lordy! Either way, expect to pay a paltry sum, or nothing at all for a copy if you catch us at a gig with copies.

Finally, apologies to all who showed up to the Lancaster gig expecting to see us, due to circumstances beyond our control we were unable to make it, we will be back however to drink the Yorkshire House's fine selection of beers and make a loud metallic noise. Thanks especially to Jack of ELIMINATOR for been understanding. Until the next update, with some gig dates and a sneak preview of the INCREDIBLE artwork for the "Englander" album, over, but never out - Kao O Aratte Denaoshite Koi!!

Branded & Exiled

Thanks indeed to that fine fellow, Herr Thomas Schulz, for the creation of this branding iron. For future live assaults, as well as offering cheap beer in the car park, dodgy merchandise and an evenings all round entertainment, we can offer a branding service for your family and friends. I can think of nothing better than having the SOLSTICE logo branded on your arm or chest. We'll be offering this service for a paltry £9.99, with your money back and a ride to the nearest burns unit if you're not satisfied.

Hands Of The Gripper

Damn. Somewhere along the line I forgot all about everything I was meant to be doing (Like updating this regularly and all that "professional" bollocks) and got sidetracked with other more urgent matters (Like actually taking stock of what material is on the partial song tapes). As most people will be aware now, we have a new vocalist. And so, officially, we would like to welcome Mr. Paul Kearns into our rank and file. It's been a while since Paul trod the boards, but he's no stranger to the wonderful world of Heavy Metal. As some of you may know, Paul was the singer in Irish legends ARCANE SUN all those years ago, and he basically got the job because of his grit, enthusiasm and actually showing up having learnt the songs and been able to sing them. His voice has a majestic and epic quality that we think will suit us well in the future with our forthcoming endeavours.

It was along drawn out process auditioning people, and there were some excellent candidates, of whom we wish to offer our thanks for trying out. On the other hand, we'd like to offer our contempt to the numerous idiots who contacted us with wildly unsuitable offers and vocal styles without actually reading the requirements for the vocalist position. To you, a hearty "Piss off."

As is stands, we have three gigs with General Felipe Plaza at the vocal position left, with Slough Feg and The Dead Resurrected  in a couple of weeks, so if you have the chance, be there. Paul will make his debut in Dublin on September 28th when will will be playing at PRIMORDIAL's 20th anniversary gig along with Germany's Desaster. Again, we need to thank Felipe for all his work and help, it's been an absolute pleasure working with such a great and talented vocalist. After the debacle earlier this year, we count ourselves lucky to have had the chance to make music with not one, but two great vocalists in Felipe Plaza and Paul Kearns. And here indeed is a quick snapshot of young Paul looking rather angry as he attempts to break the world microphone gripping record! Go Paul, go!

And so, onwards. Having reviewed what music I had already written, we have decided pretty much to start from scratch again working on fresh ideas, saving about ten - fifteen minutes of material and ideas from the past few years worth of writing. The past six months we have thought long and hard about how and where we should go musically, and what was written already musicwise (With the exception of "I AM THE HUNTER") seemed unsuitable or too regressive - (Too "Classic" Doom or too close to the ISEN TORR recording). Who knows, maybe the "ENGLANDER" album will sound how everyone imagines it will, but for ourselves, we feel we can push a little harder as musicians and create something worthy of it's predecessor without copying blindly the blueprint aready set out , to explain further :-

Unsurprisingly, we have fielded many questions recently concerning the musical nature of the forthcoming album. It would be wrong to say it won't sound like anything previously released by the band, but with a different working line up, comes different playing styles and influences. Without a doubt, minus the input of Andy Whittaker, Lenny Robinson, Rich Horton and Paul Kearns, SOLSTICE would not exist, and nor would we have the chance to evolve as a band. This much is true - it takes five people to make SOLSTICE what it is. And the five of us are committed to doing our best. There is no release time frame, nor grand master plan, we'll just do things at our own pace and when it's ready it will be ready, I cannot say anymore than that. The artwork and lyrical concepts are set in stone, the final part is the finishing and creation of the rest of the music.

Also in this updates news, we have a new exclusive T-Shirt design available from Andrea at Metal Supremacy in Germany, the "English Epic Metal" shirt features the incredible Martin Hanford artwork featured on "Lamentations" in its reissue form. It's a single sided shirt (A rarity in this day and age) but it says enough. The design will be available at the forthcoming gigs from us, as will some of the incredible Seventh Circle SOLSTICE Pendants. The image below represents the finished shirt design. We will also have a limited amount of the classic "NEW DARK AGE" logo/runescript shirts available at the gigs. To purchase either shirt design via mailorder please contact Andrea directly at - metalsupremacy.andrea@gmail.com

Finally, here is the list of confirmed forthcoming gigs. Until the next "gripping" update, maybe see you all at one of these. Or not. It's entirely up to you all, don't let us twist your arms....now, where's my rifle?

August 4th - London, The Relentless Garage (W/ SLOUGH FEG & Support)
August 5th - Nottingham, The Old Angel (W/ SLOUGH FEG & Support)
August 6th - Bradford, The 1 in 12 Club (W/ SLOUGH FEG & ATLANTEAN KODEX & more)
September 28th - Dublin, The Academy (W/ PRIMORDIAL & DESASTER)

News From The Bunker

Grrrrrrrrrrrrreetings one and all, and in an "action" packed news update this time, I shall enlighten you all on all things that matter concerning the band. First we will be engaging in some more live performances on English soil in August with our ancient comrades SLOUGH FEG (America's finest). It's been over a decade since we last shared the stage together, during the "APOCALYPSE NOW" European tour of 2000, and we are very much looking forward to another bout of heavy metal madness. Although both bands line ups have changed considerably since then, you can expect nothing but the best. SLOUGH FEG themselves will be playing across Europe, in Portugal, Germany and Holland etc so check their site for full details. The dates in England are as follows -

Thursday August 4th -
London, Highbury Garage

SOLSTICE (UK)
SLOUGH FEG (USA)
THE DEAD RESURRECTED (UK)

Friday August 5th -
Birmingham or Bristol TBC

SOLSTICE (UK)
SLOUGH FEG (USA)
THE DEAD RESURRECTED (UK)

Saturday August 6th -
Bradford, 1in 12 Club

SOLSTICE (UK)
SLOUGH FEG (USA)
ASOMVEL (UK)
ATLANTEAN KODEX (GER)
DEVIL (NOR)
THE DEAD RESURRECTED (UK)

and 1 more TBC

Joining us on all the dates, will be ex-SOLSTICE guitar player Lee Baines and his new band, THE DEAD RESURRECTED. And, most importantly vocals will possibly be handled for us again by General Felipe Plaza of PROCESSION, as although we are actively auditioning candidates for the position this month, it would seem unlikely that whoever gets the position (Which we will decide upon in June after a second round) will be ready to the standard we require in time for the gigs. But, as ever, we shall see.

Tickets for the London show are already available from the following outlets

Ticketweb :

HMV Tickets :

We have two old shirt designs available once again from BLOOD & IRON Merch in Germany which is run by Hermann and Andrea of METAL SUPREMACY. The old "NEW DARK AGE" design with logo and Rune script and the "BLOOD FIRE DOOM" design. Please email Andrea at metalsupremacy.andrea(at)gmail.com for more info and ordering. We will also have these available at the August gigs if you desire to purchase one from us.

And finally, we will be playing in Portugal, Greece, Holland, Ireland and Germany as soon as we can. Please be patient, we are working at our own pace, progressively getting heavier and tighter and composing the new material for our next album. By the time we do play some of these countries, which will be later this year, we would like to be incorporating more than one new song into our set. As we've stated before, it's our intention to move on again, unlike so many other bands who dwell on past and imagined glories. And so, until the next time, ale & Kill.

Images From Athens

I will endevour to upload more images from our excursion over there as soon as possible. However, for now, this is my favourite from last weekend, capturing around one bar table the following noted luminaries and men of action. From left to right. : Mr Felipe Plaza (Procession/Solstice), Randolph T. Bastard (Solstice/The Lamp Of Thoth), General Richard Walker (Solstice), Sir Lenny (Asomvel/Solstice), Field Marshall Trummer (Atlantean Kodex) and Jonas (Procession). No wigs, no designer drugs, no publicists or any other crap, just a bunch of guys at a great festival sharing a beer.
